The Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is holding its first ever Donation Games at MediaCityUK on 5th September.
Joining with partners from across the North West, during Organ Donation Week, the celebratory event will reflect upon and celebrate the contribution families in the North West make through organ donation.
Held on the MediaCityUK piazza on Tuesday 5th September, the Salford Donation Games will see organ transplant recipients, donor families and regional hospital donation teams join the general public to take on an inflatable assault course, a reaction zone and a spinner with points awarded for skill and time. Their scores will be added to a leader board and prizes will be given to the winners. There will also be a giant version of Organ Donation Operation and staff on hand to discuss blood and organ registration with the public.
Every year families up and down the country make a decision during a time of extreme grief; to donate their loved one’s organ. Their bravery and generosity changes the lives of thousands of people, giving them the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life. In 2016-2017 451 people in the North West received a life transforming organ transplant from a donor. Families find the decision to donate easier if they know what their loved one wanted, and during Organ Donation Week the NHS is urging people to tell their families they want to donate, so that more lives are saved.
The event will take place from 10am-6pm with slots available for teams to book in advance or on the day. There will also be a welcoming speech at 9.45am where the event will be officially declared open by Ian Trenholm, Chief Executive of NHS Blood & Transplant. To find out more and to book a slot please email raynie.carson@nhsbt.nhs.uk or chris.booth@srft.nhs.uk
